Frequently Asked Questions

Does my dog have to be on a leash?
Yes, all dogs that enter and leave the clinic must be on a leash.

Can I bring my two cats in the same carrier?
All cats must arrive in a carrier. Cats under four months of age can arrive and leave in the same carrier.  Adult cats must leave in separate carriers. We have cardboard carriers available for a $5 donation.

Can I bring my pet in for just a Rabies shot?
No, pets can receive vaccinations at the time of surgery only.

How old do animals have to be?
At least six weeks of age and 1.5 pounds.

Can you spay them while they’re pregnant or in heat?
Yes, however there is a higher risk if they are in heat or pregnant. If you can wait until they are no longer in heat to bring them in, that is best. If they are pregnant, the earliest you can bring them in, the better. There is no additional charge to spay a pregnant or in heat pet.

How soon after having a litter can a female be spayed?
You must wait until the puppies or kittens are six weeks old and weaned before the mother can be spayed. We can perform surgery on lactating females, but it is safer for them if their milk has dried up completely.

Why is there a tattoo near the incision site?
A permanent tattoo will identify that your pet has been spayed or neutered after the incision has healed.

What should I do to keep my dog or cat from licking his or her incision?
Apply bitter apple or bitter orange ointment around the incision but not directly on it as it can sting. If that doesn’t work then you need to get them an E-collar (lampshade) available at any pet store.

Do you declaw?
NO!
